Ministers near child poverty target

The government is on course to meet its target to reduce child poverty by a quarter by spring next year, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has concluded.

However, researchers added that achieving further targets to halve child poverty by 2010 and eradicate it "within a generation" would require a more vigorous policy of wealth redistribution.
