Blair backing for ID cards
Tony Blair is to make identity cards the first test of his pledge to confront the "tough choices" facing the country, according to today's Times.
The prime minister is said to have told David Blunkett that ID cards "will happen" and promised to do his best to introduce a Bill into this year's Queen's Speech, despite opposition from Cabinet ministers Gordon Brown and Jack Straw.
