Writing in the FT today, Howard Davies warns ministers that it will be an "extraordinary mistake" to allow NHS foundation trusts to appoint their own auditors.

The former Financial Services Authority chief says the decision to allow the hospitals to appoint their own watchdogs is "inconsistent with the principles of public sector audit".
