London's postal service has been paralysed by a series of unofficial strikes by half the capital's Royal Mail staff.

The strike, which began in Greenford, West London, hit a fifth of daily deliveries.

Reasons for the walkout ranged from support for a driver being suspended to pay and shift changes.

Workers walked out in Dartford in Kent, after a dead rat was found in a toilet.

Two further one-day strikes are set for November.
