In a by-election yesterday, three Labour hereditary peers had to choose between 11 registered peers seeking a seat in the Lords.

Lord Rea, Viscount Simon and Lord Strabolgi are the last hereditary Labour peers and face expulsion when Labour completes its reform of the Lords before the next election.
