Patricia Hewitt is set to break her vow to streamline the government's business support network by next April, according to today's Times.

The trade and industry secretary promised last November to reduce the 183 business support schemes of the DTI to 10 by next spring.

However, the latest figures show that since her pledge, only 17 of the schemes have been disbanded.
