A new formula for devising executive pay has been proposed by the leading accountant's group.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants said companies should publicly declare what their top directors earn as a multiple of average employee earnings.

It warned the absence of an effective restraint mechanism for executive pay was eroding trust in capital markets.
