Private clinics to get NHS staff

The government has backed plans for private hospital corporations from the US and Canada to poach NHS doctors and nurses to staff 30 fast-track treatment centres that are to be set up in England.

The centres are designed to provide extra capacity for treating patients on the NHS waiting list at public expense and are expected to carry out 250,000 operations a year by 2005.
