Funds run low as Iraq cost bites

The government's £3 billion fund for the conflict in Iraq is nearly used up, reports today's Independent.

A study by the International Institute for Strategic Studies estimates the continuing operation in Iraq is costing Britain £100 million per month.

Treasury sources said yesterday the chancellor would announce new allocations for spending on Iraq when he delivers his pre-Budget report in November.
