The prime minister and his Irish counterpart engaged in what have been described as "useful" talks on a deal which would allow elections to the Northern Ireland assembly to go ahead.

"We know where we want to be but it's a case of how we get there," said Tony Blair's spokesman following the meeting on Saturday.
