Blair still optimistic on euro poll
The prime minister has told senior ministers that he has not given up hope of holding a euro referendum before the next general election.
In what the FT characterises as a "quixotic posture", Tony Blair said an upturn in the EU economy could make entry appear more favourable to voters.
Despite the prime minister's stance many believe the Swedish "no" vote has killed off any hopes of a poll before 2005.
