Treasury accused over surge in costs

MPs have demanded an explanation after the Treasury admitted its administration costs have increased by £27 million.

The Treasury's most senior civil servants, led by permanent secretary Gus O'Donnell, told the Commons Treasury sub-committee that they had no explanation for a 40 per cent leap in administration costs in the past financial year.
