Hereditary peers remain defiant
Interviewed in today's Times, Lord Strathclyde, leader of Conservative in the House of Lords, has warned that hereditary peers will not go quietly.
"Blair said in 1997 that the House of Lords was an affront to democracy. If it was an affront to democracy then what is it now?" Lord Strathclyde said.
"It is fundamentally dishonest to pretend that they are still in favour of a serious reform of parliament when anybody can see they are not."
The government details its Lords reform plans today.
