Today's Guardian carries interviews with senior trades unionists on the question of Labour funding.

"We want Labour to win the next election, but we have cut back our funding and it won't be anywhere near the £1 million we gave last time," said Billy Hayes, general secretary of the Communication Workers Union.

His comments were matched by Tony Woodley, general secretary-elect of the Transport and General Workers Union.

"There cannot be any dispute that unions should continue to fund the party. Certainly under my leadership there will be no possibility at all of us breaking the link with Labour," he said.
