David Blunkett is pressing for time in the next parliamentary session to introduce legislation to further curb the number of asylum seekers.

The move comes less than a year after the government introduced the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act.

Sources say the bill will offer a "short, sharp" solution to the asylum problem.
