Over half a million drivers have been sent £80 fines for failing to pay London's congestion charge in the first six months of the scheme.

One in five of the penalties issued was cancelled after protests from drivers.

Of the 485,000 penalties issued by the first week in July, 225,000 had been paid, 100,000 had been cancelled and 160,000 were outstanding.
