Peace talks between Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union broke down last night.

The postal union is now set to ballot 160,000 members next week on whether or not to strike.

Although Royal Mail has called for conciliation talks in the dispute over pay and job cuts, the union believes that the future of the postal industry is at stake and it is too big an issue for mediation.
