Michael McKevitt, the "leader" of the Real IRA terror group which was behind the Omagh bombing, has been found guilty of directing terrorism.

He is expected to be jailed for life for organising attacks including the Omagh bombing which killed 29 people.

McKevitt, who is said to have resigned as the IRA's quarter-master general over the Good Friday Agreement, refused to hear the guilty verdict and remained in his cell.

Peter Mandelson, the former Northern Ireland secretary, said the verdict was "a huge breakthrough in the fight against terrorism".
