Snow, autumn leaves and now sunshine hit rails
Troubled Network Rail was last night forced to issue a statement explaining why it had imposed speed restrictions on the railways because of excessive heat.
The firm faced more ridicule after explaining that the soaring temperatures increased the chances of rails buckling.
Restrictions were imposed on the West Coast main line and other key routes, causing chaos for travellers.
