Tories get free vote on gay rights
The Conservative Party has agreed to allow a free vote on proposals which give gay and lesbian partners the same legal rights as married couples.
Tim Yeo, the shadow trade secretary, said: "I think it shows that we've grown up a lot in the last nine months."
Under the scheme couples will have to sign an official document - although the government stresses the move does not amount to gay marriage.
