A new plan to rid the streets of London of vagrants and beggars has sparked protests.

Announcing an initiative to withdraw all support for rough sleepers who refuse to be relocated to hostels, Westminster City Council said it is to create a "rapid intervention team" to tackle rough-sleeping hotspots 24 hours a day.

Charities working with homeless people said there were simply not enough hostel beds for all the rough sleepers who required one.
