Sir Edward upbeat on UK economy

Sir Edward George has delivered an upbeat assessment of the British economy.

In an interview with the BBC, the outgoing governor of the Bank of England welcomed the fall in sterling and moderating house price rises.

He also said he regretted giving an early impression that he was solely concerned with low inflation rather than economic stability.

"Perhaps I really should have been saying all along that stability of prices - consistently low inflation - is what we were seeking," he said.
