Trimble facing party split

The Ulster Unionist Party leader, David Trimble, faces a leadership challenge later today.

At a meeting of the Ulster Unionist Council this evening, Jeffrey Donaldson, the hardline UUP MP for Lagan Valley, has said that he may quit the party if his motion calling for the rejection of the British and Irish governments' plan for restoring power-sharing in Northern Ireland is defeated.
