Peers consider plan for new speaker
It was announced yesterday that a House of Lords select committee will examine the future role of the speaker of the upper house.
The move follows consultations on a new system that would allow the constitutional affairs secretary, Lord Falconer, to concentrate on his departmental work rather than on chairing peers' business.
