Fire fighters are expected to approve a 16 per cent pay rise over 30 months today.

Most of the 300 Fire Brigade Union representatives at today's special conference in Glasgow have been told by their branches to accept the employer's offer, which includes changes to working practices.

If it is approved the deal will be signed by employers on Friday and fire fighters will immediately get a four per cent rise, backdated to November.

A further seven per cent will be paid this November, followed by 4.2 per cent next July.
