The Mirror claims EU commissioner and former Labour leader Neil Kinnock is backing Robin Cook for a top job in Europe when he and Chris Patten retire.

The paper claims he favours the former Commons leader and foreign secretary over Peter Mandelson because the Hartlepool MP "comes with too much baggage".
