Murphy moves to reassure IRA
The government is not asking the IRA to surrender or abandon hopes of a united Ireland, Paul Murphy said yesterday.
In a new attempt to persuade the republican group to declare an unambiguous end to its paramilitary activity, the Northern Ireland secretary said it was not being asked to give up its "legitimate" political ambitions.
