Britons who commit offences in the EU will be pursed for fines when they return home under new rules agreed yesterday.

EU ministers agreed rules for fines of more than £50 to be collected by authorities.

The focus will be on crimes such as motoring offences.

The plans were pushed by Britain and Sweden following the failure to collect a £750,000 fine for negligence against the Swedish firm involved in the Ramsgate walkway disaster that killed six people in 1994.
