Westminster MPs have been asked to spend more of their time in European capitals and switch some committee meetings to Brussels to improve national understanding of the European Union.

Writing in The House Magazine, Europe minister Denis MacShane said that parliament could "only benefit from more contact and presence of MPs in the rest of Europe".
