First minister Jack McConnell yesterday named his new Scottish Cabinet, trimming the size of the executive from 20 to 18 MSPs.

Liberal Democrat leader Jim Wallace becomes enterprise and lifelong learning minister in the coalition, with Labour's deputy leader Cathy Jamieson taking his justice post.

The Lib Dems took two more Cabinet seats and two junior jobs.
