Interviewed in the Independent, Michael Howard says he has ruled out a bid to become leader of the Conservative Party.

"I have made that clear. I am not going to stand. Ever. I am not going to stand," he said.

The shadow chancellor added that Iain Duncan Smith is "doing fine" as party leader. "We did very well in the local election results and he deserves credit for that," said Howard.
