MPs take aim at special advisers
A draft Civil Service Act drawn up by the Commons public administration committee will impose new limits on the power of special advisers.
The plans would deprive Number 10's communications director, Alastair Campbell, and Tony Blair's chief of staff, Jonathan Powell, of their "special status".
There would be a limit on the number of special advisers, who would be under a legal obligation to "not knowingly mislead".
