Tamsin Jay, the granddaughter of former Labour premier Lord Callaghan, is hoping to make it onto the shortlist for retiring MP Brian Sedgemore's safe Labour seat, the Times claims.

Callaghan's daughter Margaret Jay was leader of the House of Lords in Tony Blair's first term of office.
