Palestine deal edges closer
Ariel Sharon has given his strongest indication that he expects to see a Palestinian state and is prepared to remove controversial settlements to achieve peace.
In an apparent softening of his stance, the Israeli prime minister declared that "eventually there will be a Palestinian state".
Sharon went on to tell an Israeli newspaper: "I do not think that we have to rule over another people and run their lives. I do not think that we have the strength for that."
