Jowell backs press watchdog reform
The Press Complaints Commission needs to reform in order to avoid being perceived as secretive, Tessa Jowell said yesterday.
The culture secretary argued that an independent ombudsman is needed to hear appeals against PCC findings, and that the body should increase public confidence by advertising its appointments for lay members.
Meanwhile, Olympic triple jump champion Jonathan Edwards has been appointed to the board of the new media regulator Ofcom.
