The Britain in Europe campaign group yesterday joined Peter Mandelson in pressuring the prime minister not to rule out euro entry for the rest of the parliament.

BiE chief Simon Buckby said that with most economic convergence assessments now positive for entry, that only as a result of "political shenanigans" could the Treasury decide against recommending membership.
