Yasser Arafat has accepted a reformist government whose task will be to open the way for peace talks.

Under strong pressure from Washington and London, the Palestinian leader backed a leadership proposed by the prime minister-designate, Mahmoud Abbas, which includes at least one man he had vowed never to accept.
