Tables turned as MPs grill editors

Newspaper editors yesterday told a committee of MPs that self regulation of newspapers should continue.

The Commons committee for culture, media and sport, which is investigating press intrusion, was told by the editor of the Sun, Rebekah Wade, that her newspaper pays police officers for information.

Piers Morgan, editor of the Daily Mirror, told the MPs: "Members of the public invade their own privacy more than the press do."

But Alan Rusbridger of the Guardian called for reform of the Press Complaints Commission.
