Iain Duncan Smith used his speech to the Conservative Spring conference in Harrogate yesterday to launch a campaign to win back the support of Britain's middle classes.

The Conservative leader said: "They are the quiet strength of our nation and, yes, they are getting angry. These people are the backbone of our country and this government has ripped them off."
