Blair to delay local elections?

The prime minister is said to be considering moving the date of the 2004 local elections to allow a euro referendum to be held next Spring.

Today's Telegraph reports that Tony Blair may postpone the local elections until June 10, the same date as the poll for the European parliament.

The Electoral Commission has ruled that the government cannot hold a referendum on the same day as normal elections because the issues would get confused in the minds of the electorate.
