FTSE falls again

Around £40 billion was wiped off the value of the UK's 100 leading quoted companies in the London stock exchange yesterday.

The drop of 4.8 per cent was the eighth biggest on record and took the FTSE back to levels last seen more than seven years ago.

"We have got political uncertainty on top of economic uncertainty, and that's a pretty fatal cocktail," said Nick Parsons, an economist with Commerzbank.
