Lords reform lands in the long grass
The hopes of democratic reformers suffered a blow yesterday when the joint committee on House of Lords wound itself up.
The decision came after MPs failed to agree on a proposal for taking reform forward in a series of recent votes.
Committee members passed the issue back to government, against the wishes of chairman Jack Cunningham and Commons leader Robin Cook, who had wanted to salvage something from the laborious process.
