ONE big failure

A government welfare to work scheme was criticised yesterday by the Department for Work and Pensions.

ONE, a programme set up to help the unemployed, single parents and the disabled to find work, had no effect on the chances of any of the participants finding a job.

Costing £116 million in total, the ONE pilots were launched in 1999 and involved people claiming benefits and receiving advice about finding work all in one go.
