French red carpet for Mugabe condemned

Today's papers condemn president Chirac's red carpet treatment for Robert Mugabe, with many focusing on his decision to shake the hand of, but not kiss, the controversial Zimbabwean leader at his Franco-African summit.

The FT reveals new evidence of the forcible eviction of peasants and white farmers from their property in Zimbabwe, some of which was personally taken by Mugabe's own family.

Meanwhile it has emerged that Henry Olonga, the cricket player who wore a black armband signalling the "death of democracy" in Zimbabwe during his team's opening world cup fixture, has been sacked by his club.
