Jowell toughens media bill
The culture secretary has moved to clarify the role of Ofcom, the media watchdog, as she piloted the Communications Bill through the Commons.
Tessa Jowell said the changes were a "belt and braces guarantee that will...safeguard and further the interests of the community", after criticism that the law would be too relaxed in issues of media ownership and consumer interests.
