Medically qualified refugees are being overlooked as potential NHS nurses, a former president of the Royal College of Nursing has said.

Roswyn Hakesley-Brown said that while the NHS was spending millions on recruiting nurses from overseas, a pool of talent was being overlooked much closer to home.

"Many [refugees] are doctors and nurses who want to stay and contribute but we are not utilising them," she said.
