May calls for positive discrimination

Theresa May, the Conservative chairman, has backed calls for tough action to force activists in winnable constituencies to choose more women.

Writing in today's Independent, John Bercow, a former member of Iain Duncan Smith's shadow cabinet, says: "There are still too many Conservative selection committees that want young male MPs to fraternise with at drinks parties and will not seriously consider choosing a woman."
