University access is down to schools, says Blair

The most important factor in improving higher education access is raising school standards, the prime minister has said.

Ahead of plans for a new access regulator, Tony Blair said yesterday: "The absolutely key thing in improving the number of people from all social groups going to university is to improve school standards."
