The system of family friendly hours for MPs may have to be reviewed after a series of complaints from backbenchers from all sides of the House.

Michael Fabricant, the Tory MP for Lichfield, told today's Telegraph: "We cannot be in several places at once, and we now find ourselves with less time available to do our constituency work. The people who voted for this did not think it through."

Meanwhile, MPs with young families in London say the new hours have meant that they can no longer take their children to school in the morning, and they get back too late to see them before they go to bed.
