John Prescott is set to publish plans for a £500 million facelift of inner city areas over the next three years.

Within the next two weeks, and as part of his plan to create hundreds of thousands of affordable homes, the deputy prime minister will also introduce measures to clamp down on landlords who fail to maintain houses and allow them to deteriorate into slums.
